‘Anam Spáltaithe (Spalted Soul)’ – Midi Traditional Irish Wedding Goblet
In 17th century Ireland when a young man fell in love with a young woman he carved a goblet to present to her. He lovingly carved the goblet, with two/three captive rings, all from a single piece of wood.
These two rings symbolised unity and eternity, while the three rings are said to symbolise the engagement ring, the wedding ring and the eternity ring.
At their wedding feast they both drank from the goblet and thereafter kept it in a safe place for, so long as the rings remained unbroken they would love each other for eternity.
Note: if you request a personalised piece, please order at least 4 weeks in advance of the couple’s wedding to allow enough time for making and delivery.
Traditional Irish Wedding Goblet made and designed in Ireland by Furniture Designer-Maker and Woodturner Cian Magill.
Ideal wedding gift for the couple, handmade with heart and soul from local spalted hazel-wood. The wood has been hand-cut, and air-dried accordingly
by the maker, from an ancient Irish woodland, Cnoc na Carraigín. This is a small sacred place, a symbol of what once spanned their mighty roots across Ireland. 160mm high by 70mm round at widest point. All pieces come with original, handmade packaging, including a 100% organic-cotton drawstring bag, and accompanying information cards which are personalized with a message of your choice.
