Unique Wooden Coffee Table – Natural Edge…
Could this be the perfect unique wooden coffee table for your home? ‘Scandi Meets a Gael’, is already made and ready to ship!
Handcrafted in Co. Galway by Furniture Designer-Maker Cian Magill, this piece is truly unique. Inspired by mid-century modern and Scandinavian furniture, this coffee table was made for Magill Woodcraft’s first official art exhibition, where Cian exhibited a range of work at the ‘Secret Garden Craft Shop’ in Kinvara, Co. Galway, (June 11th – July 11th 2019).
Made from spalted-Sycamore (top), that grew a natural life at Castlehacket (near Knockma – the sacred fairy hill, Belclare, Tuam, Co. Galway) and ebonised Irish Oak (legs). Spalting is any form of wood colouration caused by fungi, which is sought after by woodworkers for it’s unique and beautiful grain patterns.
The void in the middle of the table top occurred naturally as the tree grew over 70 years. The table’s legs are ‘ebonised’ using a wire wool and vinegar solution. When applied to the wood, it reacts with tannins in the grain, and blackens the timber (similar to bog-oak).
A perfect way to bring the outside in to your home.
”It was and always is a true pleasure creating new things. This piece is handcrafted with heart and soul from Irish spalted-Sycamore (Co. Galway) and ebonised Irish Oak. It is still available and needs to go to a good home! It measures roughly 3 foot round by 1.5 foot high.”
Alternatively, pieces similar to this can be designed and made to suit you. With your idea, and my design skills, we can create a unique solution that will come to life!
